Wonderful memories of climbing with some really great mates over the years Number 4.

Wonderful memories of climbing with some really great mates over the years Number 4.

For a couple of years we used to team up with Sandy Dobie (from Prestatyn) and Mike Griffiths (from Mold or Deeside I think). In the summer of '75 Mike didn't have anyone to climb with, so he advertised himself in the local paper as a "Club". Sandy was the first person to get in contact with him, and therefore became his regular climbing partner. They were an absolute hoot together, always looking to have a laugh and never taking themselves seriously. We'd all camp under the Cromlech or the Grochan and work our way through The Pass classics. Sandy was the best climber I'd climbed with at that time, he was a natural and so relaxed on the rock.

Here's Sandy leading Cenotaph Corner in bendy boots, during the endless summer of '76. Mike's bouldering on The Cromlech boulders. Sandy had a very old BSA 250 single, Mike Griff had a couple of monsters, a Triton and a Norton Commando.

The last time I saw Sandy was when we climbed Zukator together, one day at Tremadoc in 1984. I haven't heard anything about either of them since. I wonder where they are now?
